A New Generation of Postal Containers
Durable large foldable plastic boxes and pallets are gradually replacing wooden pallets and wooden and steel containers at postal service companies in many countries. As part of their search for greater efficiency and cost savings, forward thinking postal companies are switching to a new generation of postal containers equipped with tracking and tracing provisions. Unlike the old style containers or cloth sacks, the new plastic box is designed for automated mail handling.
The need to securely track and trace documents, parcels and products throughout the postal process is becoming ever more pressing. Postal and courier companies throughout the world operate very complex distribution chains on a daily basis and face increasing pressure to improve efficiencies. Manufacturers require more effective tracking of their reusable assets such as plastic boxes, trays, pallets and crates in order to reduce costs and improve return on investment for those products.
The plastic box must be tracked at each stage of the logistics process, so the product arrives safely at its destination. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) uses radio waves to automatically identify objects. Coupled with existing barcode technologies, RFID has the power to transform the operations of postal, logistics and express-courier services worldwide:
RF-enabled labels will help to eliminate distribution bottlenecks, increase service levels and decrease handling costs
Inventory control of re-usable assets such as plastic boxes, trays, containers, pallets, roll-cages and kegs will become much more accurate and efficient
Products and documents will be more easily authenticated to combat counterfeiting and grey market activity
With our in-depth knowledge of label construction, materials design, adhesives, barcode design and printing, we have long been recognised as leaders in providing secure logistics solutions. In embracing the numerous opportunities presented by this latest technology, we are even better placed to devise innovative, individual solutions that will bring tangible benefits to your business.
The plastic box is a simple concept, but combined with the above innovative ideas, can be transformed into a state of the art packaging system for the postal industry.
